Turkmenistan is a country in Central Asia, washed by the waters of the Caspian Sea in the west and the Amu Darya River in the east. It borders Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to the north, and Afghanistan and Iran to the south. A significant part of the country is occupied by the Karakum Desert. Here are located the ruins of the ancient settlements of Nisa and Merv, and Kunya- Urgench – UNESCO World Heritage Sites through which the Great Silk Road once passed. Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, is a white-marble city that entered the Guinness World Records as the city with the highest density of white-marble buildings in the world. The beauties of Turkmenistan are a combination of unique natural sites such as the Darvaza gas crater and the Yangykala Canyon, ancient historical monuments, endless desert, and mountains. In 2025, December 12 will be grandly celebrated as the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality. It was on December 12, 1995, that the United Nations recognized the “Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan.” Under the wise leadership of the Turkmen National Leader the deeply respected Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the neutrality status was confirmed by the UN for the second time on June 3, 2015, and for the third time on March 21, 2025.
